New caves found in Phong Nha-Ke Bang Park

Several caves have been newly explored in the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park by a joint team the British Caving Research Association, Hanoi Natural Sciences University and the Park’s Administrators.

A total of 39 caves have been explored in this 16th expedition (16/3 to 25/4) into the park of the joint team. The 39 caves cover a total length of 17 km and were carefully measured, charted and photographed providing new and precise figures to the administrators of the National Park.

In the group of 39 caves, three most notable caves were the 1,100 meter by 200 meter cave named May Dai cave, the 1,230 meter wide Lan Dai cave and the 213 meter high Vuc Moi cave.

A Ky cave

The other notable caves are: The Tu cave, located west of the Ho Chi Minh Road, is an upright-standing cave stretching 444 meters into the air. The A Ky cave, a 1,260 meter wide cave east of No.20 Road, was noted for its unique hydrography – that is, a long stream running through the cave which begins in Laos.

The new caves brought the total explored cave space in Phong Nha – Ke Bang Park  to 200 kilometers.
